Vegetarian dishes don’t have to be just salads with cheese. The best vegetarian restaurants in Siem Reap serve a wide variety of flavorful, colourful vegetarian dishes that encompass Western specialities, authentic Khmer delicacies and Asian cuisine. Tourists don’t have to compromise either taste or quality, although these vegetarian meals have enticing prices.

Vegetarian Pizza

Vegetarian pizza can have a thin, crunchy or fluffy base and features a lot of yummy vegetables and succulent toppings. Tomatoes, onion, mushrooms, olives, and tofu are just a few of the ingredients you can enjoy, along with a variety of cheeses that melt in your mouth.

Vegetarian pizza is available at most vegetarian restaurants in this city, as well as Italian restaurants and even some Khmer restaurants.

Vegetarian Curry

Curry is the staple of Indian cuisine and some Indian restaurants in the area serve delicious vegetarian curry varieties.

You can sample hearty options with aromatic spices and succulent vegetables, such as lentils, aubergine, peas, plum tomatoes, smoked tofu, cauliflower, or carrots.

Chana masala, aka Indian chickpea curry, is a good vegetarian meal or side dish, while vegan Thai curry features noodles, plenty of veggies, aromatic coconut milk, spicy chilli and a lot of other spices for a boom of flavours that pop in your mouth.

Vegetarian Amok

Fish Amok is a popular Cambodian dish. Amok is a type of curry based on a flavour-rich paste with plenty of varieties in Indian and Thai cuisines. While these two cuisines use earthy spices, Cambodian Amok is different.
The fish paste is substituted with a mixture of salt, chilli peppers and dried mushrooms. Other ingredients include lemongrass, ginger root, galangal, turmeric, garlic, lime leaves, palm sugar, coconut cream, plus banana and amok leaves.

The result is a dish, which although doesn’t look extremely appetizing, is extremely satiating and aromatic.

Vegetarian Prahok Khtis

Original Prahok Khtis is made with pork, but vegetarians don’t have to sit on the side while their non-vegetarian friends enjoy a traditional Prahok Khtis.

Mock Prahok Khtis is equally delicious as it’s prepared with protein-filled tofu that’s slow-cooked for extra tenderness. Other ingredients include eggplants, various vegetables, and a wide array of aromatic Khmer herbs that turn this dish into a feast for your taste buds.

Vegetarian Indonesian Sisig

You don’t have to miss out on the rich Indonesian flavours just because you don’t eat meat. Instead of using chicken, professional chefs in Siem Reap use a mix of tofu and mushrooms to prepare this delicious meal.

The marinade adds more flavour to the main ingredients, which rest in a bowl of soy sauce, garlic, coconut vinegar and sugar to become moister. This mix of tenderized Shiitake, Oyster, and Beech mushrooms with tofu is then sautéed in a mix of coconut oil topped with ginger, garlic, onion, chilli peppers and lemon juice.

Vegetarian Sandwiches

If you want a quick bite for breakfast or a snack before walking the streets of Siem Reap, you can try various vegetarian sandwiches.

A pesto sandwich with a side of tomato bisque that’s drizzled with mozzarella is a good vegetarian option. You can also try a mock Chickpea ”Tuna” Sandwich that replaces the tuna with avocado, and uses a variety of vegetables like chickpea, celery, cabbage, peppers, and cucumber, plus smooth mayo from cashews.

Grilled Papaya Soup

Siem Reap vegetarian restaurants can prepare deliciously smooth and fragrant soups as well. One such soup is made with grilled papayas, which are packed with vitamins, folates, and fibre, plus low-calorie, and low-fat.

Various chefs will add different vegetables to the mix, including garlic, onions, and red or yellow peppers. The result is a creamy delight that entices your eyes with its explosive, bright yellow, and your taste buds with its tasty mix of vegetables.
