The hypnotizing Apsara Dance Shows which take place every evening enhance this vibrant atmosphere. Part of Cambodia’s oral tradition, the Apsara dances have been transmitted from generation to generation, creating a strong bond between Cambodia’s present and its past. The show, which starts at 7.30 pm each night of the week has its roots in a Cambodian legend about the union of Apsara Mera, queen of the heavenly nymphs, to the hermit Kampu. Thus the Khmer people are descendants of these two shining figures.

Mera, dressed entirely in white, is mesmerizing through its garden dances which prophesize happiness and wealth for the Khmer people. The other nymphs bring her flowers, and their movements represent a dance of love for the new people of Cambodia.
