All these elements work together so the young Mondulkiri can pray for better harvests, and you can get a taste of the local spirituality.

This harvesting dance is part of the north-east Cambodian traditions, but you will also enjoy other dances. For instance, the blessing ceremony of Kab Krobey Pherk Sra pertains to the Phnong people, an ethnic group in Ratanakiri. As the people ask the spirits for peace and prosperity, they sacrifice a buffalo and offer them its head.

The Ploy Souy Dance is another intriguing experience. Part of the Leang Somnam ceremony, this dance is enacted by the Souy people who ask for protection from their gods and their cave spirit.

Lastly, the classic Apsara Dance is the hearthstone of the Khmer culture – a ritual that begs the spirits for rain, prosperity, and peace. Instances of this dance are even represented on the walls of the Angkor Wat temples, dating from the reign of famous King Suryavarman II.
